HYDERABAD: With the BRS shutting the doors on the Left parties, there was a buzz in the media around a possible alliance of the communists with the Congress. While Congress sources denied any such development, the Left parties did not rule it out.

Congress Telangana in-charge Manikrao Thakre when asked about the talks said, “There have not been any talks with the Left parties. Parties who agree and think like us should agree with our thinking. If both of us think on the same lines we will strike a deal.”

CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao said such theories were being floated in the media. Asked whether the Congress was ready for an alliance with like-minded secular parties, Sambasiva Rao said, “We are also saying the same. Some middlemen tried to contact us. We told them we would sit for talks if the situation is positive and there is a chance of a deal.

We will make our demands if any when we sit for talks. The issue of seats did not arise. We don’t want the talks to drag on. Within one or two sittings the talks should be finished. They know what we want. It’s not that we are desperate,” he said.

However, sources in the CPM said, “Thakre called us. CPI leaders went and met him. CPM leaders could not meet owing to the state committee meeting on Sunday. In two days we will go and meet the Congress. The CPI and CPM will together meet on August 29 or 30 and seek five seats for CPI and CPM each.”

They further said the CPM party is likely to ask for assembly seats in Bhadrachalam, Paleru, Madhira, Miryalaguda and Ibrahimpatnam.
