Vijayawada: Right now what TD wants more than anything else is to bring in  new faces  for their ‘Telugu Mahila’. Veteran Actress Vani Viswanath was considered for the post of Telugu Mahila president. But she didn’t join the party and she doesn’t even belong to AP.

Seasoned TD Mahila Leaders are also in the race. There’s Payakarao pet MLA V. Anitha, Krishna district Mahila president Achanta Sunitha, and lots of others, many of whom are requesting the party to consider their names for the position.

There is an obvious gap in women’s leadership in the TD. The party is aware of this and is vigorously striving to identify strong women leaders to lead the Telugu Mahila. Though there are two women ministers, Paritala Sunitha and Bhuma Akhila Priya, TD isn’t considering them, as Akhila Priya is new in the party while Paritala Sunitha is beyond expectations for that position. Though there are senior leaders like Nannapuneni Raja Kumari, Samanthakamani and others, it isn’t deemed appropriate to consider them.

It appears that senior leaders like Mullapudi Renuka and  Payakarao pet MLA V. Anitha might also be under consideration for  the Telugu Mahila position.

According to sources, TD is also pursuing TD district Mahila presidents who have ben active since 2004, for this current  position. Krishna district Women’s president and a few other district leaders in Kadapa, West Godavari are also in the race.

When asked, TD MLA Anitha predicted that women are going to play a key role in the party and hoped the party would take a wise decision in the matter. She also said she was ready to take the responsibility if the party ordered her to do so.

Krishna district TD mahila president A. Sunitha shared her views about expecting the party to  consider women leaders who had been active in districts since 2004, for the position of Telugu Mahila, since they are addressing public issues and that she had requested the party to consider her name as a contender.

A TD senior leader who is playing a key role in organisational affairs, said they hadn’t come to any conclusion yet.

All he would say was that they were expecting Mr Naidu to consider seniors rather than cine actresses or those new to politics for this post, which is being considered increasingly important.
