Triangular Contest in Warangal West, Incumbent Confident

Update: 2023-10-28 18:27 GMT

WARANGAL: The Warangal West (Hanamkonda) Assembly segment is purely an urban constituency which came into existence in 2009 during the delimitation of the constituencies replacing Hanamkonda in the state Assembly. It comprises 28 divisions of the tri-cities -- Hanamkonda, Warangal and Kazipet -- under the limits of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC).

Hanamkonda, which is one of the second-largest cities in the state, has historical significance with the presence of the famed Thousand Pillars temple, Sri Bhadrakali Devi temple and Sri Padmakashi Devi temple. It is rich in educational institutions -- private and government institutions -- besides Kakatiya University and Kakatiya Medical College and Kaloji Narayana Rao Health University, apart from many engineering and medical colleges besides the National Institute of Technology (NIT). The city has also a state-run tertiary healthcare facility Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) and a zoological park along with a Science Centre.

The Warangal West segment, which comes under the Warangal parliamentary constituency, has a total electorate of 2,77,125 voters, with 1,37,139 male voters and 1,39,976 females and 10 transgender voters, as per summary revision of electoral 2023.

Since its inception in 2009, Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar has been representing the constituency by winning four times consecutively in the 2009, 2010, 2014 and 2018 Assembly elections. In 2018, he won on a BRS ticket by defeating TDP candidate Revuri Prakash Reddy with a margin of 36,451 votes as a total of 1,42,664 votes were polled.

This time, Bhaskar is going to face Congress nominee Naini Rajendar Reddy and Rao Padma of BJP. While the incumbent was betting on developmental activities taken up and welfare schemes implemented in the past 14 years, Congress nominee Rajendar Reddy was reaching out to the people with six guarantees and BJP’s Rao Padma was highlighting the failures of the BRS government and the development done across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to woo the voters.
