People will not accept marginal reduction in bus fare: PMK
''The state government is trying to project as if it has given a major relief to the people , Ramadoss said in the statement.
Chennai: PMK on Sunday rejected the reduction in bus fares announced by the Tamil Nadu Government ranging from 4 per cent to 20 per cent and said people will never accept such measures that are taken merely to “cheat” them.
In a statement here, party founder S Ramadoss said the “marginal” reduction in fares that were increased last week will not satisfy the people and refused to accept the reasons attached by the state government for raising fares.
“After having raised bus fares by nearly 100 per cent, the state government is now trying to cheat the people by reducing fares by 3 per cent, 4 per cent and 7 per cent. The state government is trying to project as if it has given a major relief to the people”, Ramadoss said in the statement.
He also punched holes in the state government’s contention that Tamil Nadu has the lowest fares in South India, saying the rates in Kerala are much
lower than the fares here.
“The state government should desist from cheating people. Instead, it should completely withdraw the fare hike and take steps to strengthen the transport corporations”, the PMK leader said.
