Bengaluru: Former external affairs minister S.M. Krishna is all set for his first foray in his new avatar as the star campaigner of BJP in Nanjangud and Gundlupet Assembly constituencies later this week.

Sources in the state unit of BJP told Deccan Chronicle that top leaders are banking on Mr Krishna to tip the scales in favour of party candidates Mr V Srinivas Prasad and Mr Niranjan Kumar respectively as the ruling Congress was pulling out all the stops to retain both seats scheduled to go to polls on April 9.

With a tough electoral battle on hand, the leaders are keen to ensure that Mr Krishna woos Vokkaliga voters in both these constituencies, sources added.
Besides, BJP leaders are keen to watch Mr Krishna take on his erstwhile colleagues of Congress and expose the follies of the state government headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

A senior leader said Mr Krishna, who attended a meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday where Members of Parliament of BJP were briefed about GST bills by Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, had consented to campaign in both constituencies.

He would accompany BJP’s candidates in Nanjangud and Gundlupet during his two-day whirlwind tour of these constituencies.
