Bengaluru:  Evidently moved by widespread criticism over the controversial decision to hand a one-year imprisonment order against two editors, Congress general secretary  in charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal on Wednesday assured that he would discuss about the issue with Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah.

He told the media on the sidelines of day-long meetings with party functionaries here the Congress always stood for freedom of press and it does not believe in muzzling anyone's freedom be it eating or thinking or writing. "I personally condemn any such decision," he added.

According to him, in public life, controversies are bound to crop up and leaders must be aware of it. "Although I am aware of the Legislative Assembly's decision I do not know the complete details. However, I will discuss with Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, about this and appeal to him to take a decision in favour of the media rather than in favour of legislators," he added.

Mr Venugopal recently took over as the general secretary in charge of Karnataka from former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh, ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled for 2018.
