Telangana not to follow Lok Sabha list of \'banned words\'
Gutha Sukender Reddy said he was not in favour of banning those words as he doesn’t consider them ‘unparliamentary’
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Legislature Secretariat is not keen to implement the latest list of ‘unparliamentary words’ banned by the Lok Sabha Secretariat recently.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, TS Legislative Council chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy said he was not in favour of banning those words as he doesn’t consider them ‘unparliamentary’. He said a meeting of Legislative Council chairman and Legislative Assembly speaker will be held soon in which a final decision will be taken on the issue.
The TS Legislature has no separate list of banned words and normally follows the list prescribed by Parliament. As the Budget session ended on March 15, the Legislative Council and Assembly are set to meet before September 14 for following a Constitutional norm that insists that the gap between two sessions cannot be more than six months.
Sukender Reddy also raised objection over Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan making ‘political comments’ in public and crossing the ‘constitutional limits’. Reddy stated that he found nothing wrong with words ‘crocodile tears’, ‘chamchagiri’, ‘corrupt’, ‘drama’, ‘ashamed’, ‘anarchist’, ‘shakuni’, ‘eyewash’ etc that were banned by the Lok Sabha Secretariat recently.
“These words are often used by members while speaking in the House. These words have been used for decades. There was no problem with these words all these years. So why now?” he asked.
Referring to the Governor’s recent statements on the state government and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Council chairman said, “There are certain limitations for persons holding constitutional posts like the Governor. No one should cross those limits. It's unfortunate that Tamilisai Soundarrajan is crossing these limits and making political comments in public.”
He also found fault with the Centre's decision not to increase seats in the Legislative Assembly in Telangana until 2026, stating that it was against the provisions of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, passed by Parliament. This shows Centre’s discrimination towards Telangana, Reddy said.
