Hyderabad: Mr Anumula Revanth Reddy on Saturday quit the Telugu Desam and his Kodangal Assembly seat on Saturday.

Congress sources confirmed that Mr Revanth Reddy would be joining the party formally in the first week of November in presence of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi. With his resignation from the Assembly, the TD is left with two legislators in the TS Assembly.

Mr Revanth Reddy turned up towards the end of the TS TD leaders’ meeting in Amaravati and sought an appointment to meet party president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu separately. Mr Naidu asked him to wait till he completed his media conference.

Mr Revanth Reddy told him that he was leaving the party and handed over his resignation letter to TD office secretary and MLC T.D. Janard-hana Rao and left.

In his three-page undated letter that was released to media, Mr Revanth Reddy did not utter single word against anybody in the party. He thanked Mr Naidu for all his help, support and encouragement.

The two-term Kodangal MLA said there was a need to build a broader political front to dislodge the K. Chandrasekhar Rao government and to free the state from “the clutches of KCR and his family”, as the reason for his quitting the party.

He said Telangana state under the Chandra-sekhar Rao government was facing severe crises. He thanked Mr Naidu for standing behind him and his family members in his hours of crisis.

Mr Revanth Reddy also enclosed his resignation letter, dated October 27, addressed to the Speaker of Telangana Assembly in the format prescribed in Assembly rules.

Mr Naidu during his interaction with the media later said he had not received Mr Revanth Reddy’s resignation letter and was not aware of its contents. He said it was common for people join and quit parties.
