Tirupati: A recent clash between the Telugu Desam (TD) activists and the police resulted in the registration of cases against 26 party workers, including the constituency in-charge Bojjala Sudheer Reddy in Srikalahasti of Tirupati district.

The incident took place following the ‘Jaganasura Vadha’ protest organised by the TD in the Srikalahasti Assembly constituency as part of a statewide call.

The confrontation erupted when the Srikalahasti Rural Circle inspector K. Ajay Kumar found the protesting TD activists were at odds with him. Accusing the CI of high-handedness and offensive language against them, Reddy, along with party workers staged a protest in front of the Srikalahasti Rural police station, demanding action against the CI.

However, the situation took a turn when the CI filed a complaint alleging that it was Sudheer Reddy who used foul language against him over the phone and threatened him that he would see the end of his career after the TD came to power in the next six months.

police booked cases against Sudheer Reddy and 25 other TD activists under IPC Section 147 (rioting), 506 (criminal intimidation), 341 (wrongful restraint), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
