Thiruvananthapuram: The KPCC has appointed a 79-member team for coordinating the campaign for UDF  candidate P. K. Kunhalikutty in Malappuram.

The committee set up by acting KPCC chief M. M. Hassan on Tuesday consists of almost all the KPCC office-bearers.  Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and former chief minister Oommen Chandy are not  in the panel as they will campaign there on and off. Former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran will also campaign for a day  despite his ill-health.

Mr Hassan will resume his campaign from Thursday. Malappuram DCC president V. V. Prakash, the campaign committee chairman there, told DC that they had  completed conventions in 16 panchayats.

“The UDF is way ahead in campaign which is very systematic. We have already completed seven Assembly constituency-level conventions. House-to- house squad work is on,”  he said.

Sources said that  Mr Kunhalikutty was  happy with Mr Chandy’s campaigning as  his road show is  critical of the BJP’s fascist moves.  Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony too is expected to reach Malappuram during April 8 - 9. “Because of the Parliament session,  Antony is busy. But he may come to Malappuram before the voting on  April 12,”  said a source.
