KV Thomas is no doubt happy after Lok Sabha stint
“Leaders should work beyond groups. The group rivalry will spoil the party’s chances in elections,†he remarked.
Kochi: Prof. K.V. Thomas MP said on Friday that though he was pained and shocked by the denial of seat for Lok Sabha polls he is now a happy man. While addressing a Meet the Press programme at Ernakulam Press Club, the senior Congress leader said that he has no complaints, though the High command had not given him any promise or assurance.
“I was willing to withdraw from contesting the Lok Sabha polls and the decision was communicated to the party leadership, six months back. But, the party had decided to give tickets to all sitting MPs. However, when the list of candidates was announced, my name was dropped which came as a big shock. Later, during the talks with the high command, I didn’t raise any demands or given any promises,” he said.
Meanwhile, the former Union minister, who has represented the Ernakulam Lok Sabha constituency five times, said that the unrestrained group rivalry in the party will not do it any good.
“Leaders should work beyond groups. The group rivalry will spoil the party’s chances in elections,” he remarked.
He added that he was ready to quit the electoral politics since a young generation is waiting for opportunities in the party. “The young generation is very active and let them lead the party. However, I will not retire from public life and will continue with the activities of the NGO,” he added.
Prof. Thomas dismissed the reports that he was denied seat as he is not close to Rahul Gandhi unlike Sonia Gandhi, whom with he enjoys close ties. “The reports are baseless as I am still very close to the Gandhi family.” He also denied the reports that praising PM Modi in a public function led to the denial of seat.
I was misquoted by the media which has been properly communicated to the high command.”
He also urged the party workers to work hard for the victory of Hibi Eden in Ernakulam.
