Kottayam: The affidavit Chief Minister Oommen Chandy submitted along with his nomination papers for the Puthupapally constituency on Friday declared that there has been no case pending against him in Kerala. The declaration gains importance in the wake of Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan alleging that there are 31 cases pending against him.

The affidavit said the chief minister had no cash in hand but has a bank deposit of Rs 97,160 apart from gold worth Rs 1,4,880 and shares worth Rs 1,19,800. His wife has Rs 10,516 in hand, gold worth Rs 8,16,960 and a bank deposit of Rs 10,57,524.

Mr Chandy, who is contesting the 11th time from the same constituency, submitted his nomination papers before Pallikathodu block development officer. He was accompanied by his son Chandy Oommen, UDF leaders including Jose K. Mani, MP, and hundreds of Congress workers.

Speaking to reporters after filing the papers, Mr Chandy expressed the hope that the people will give the UDF one more opportunity to take the developmental works forward. He demanded that Mr Achuthananthan tender an apology for leveling baseless allegations against him. “Otherwise, the people will correct him,” Mr Chandy said.
