Ex- IPS officer Kiran Bedi takes charge as Puducherry Lt Governor

She told reporters that the development of Puducherry in all sectors would be her first preference.

Puducherry: The BJP leader and former IPS officer Ms Kiran Bedi was sworn-in as the new Lt. Governor of Puducherry union territory here on Sunday evening.

Judge of the Madras High court Mr Justice Hupuvadi G Ramesh administered the oath of office and secrecy to her at the swearing-in ceremony. She took the oath of office in the presence of the Chief Minister-nominee V Narayanasamy, MLAs , senior officials and other dignitaries at the Raj Bhavan.

Ms Bedi after assuming the office said that her vision “is to build a prosperous Puducherry, where trust, accountability and empowerment will be the three principle mantras to fulfill the vision”.

“Serving the people without any flaws will be the prime concern. Separate plans to ensure road safety, to decrease the crime rate, enabling and ensuring optimum use of resources will be done in near future”, she added. Ms. focus at the moment is also to make the Union territory a favorite tourist destination.

Earlier in the day, before taking oath of office, Ms Bedi convened a review meeting with officials, which was attended by the Chief Secretary Manoj Parida, secretaries to the government and heads of departments.

After the meeting, she told reporters that the development of Puducherry in all sectors would be her first preference.

The 66 -year-old Bedi, who is the country’s first woman IPS officer, had been appointed as the new governor of Puducherry last week.
