KOZHIKODE: Former Minister and Congress leader K.P. Noorudheen (77), who was admitted to a private hospital here on Saturday with serious head injuries after a fall, passed away on Sunday evening.  He suffered bleeding in the brain after the accident.

He was elected to Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1977, 1980, 1982, 1987 and 1991, all from Peravoor constituency in Kannur. From May 26, 1982 to Match 25, 1987, he served as Minister for Forests, Animal Husbandry and Sports in the Ministry headed by K Karunakaran.

Mr  Noorudheen was born on July 30, 1939, as the son of Mohammed Haji at Peruvamba in Kannur District. Entering politics through Youth Congress in 1953, Noorudheen has later served as Convener and President of Mandalam Committees of the Congress.

He was also General Secretary of Kannur DCC and Treasurer, KPCC during 1972-82. In his long political career, Noorudheen had also served as the President of Coir Marketing Federation and Managing Director of Veekshanam Printing and Publishing Company. He is survived with wife Asma and four children.
