Govt to address concerns on Vizhinjam port project: Kadannappally Ramachandran
Mr. Kadannappally added that government's initial focus is on modernisation of small ports.
KOCHI: Concerns and suggestions on Vizhinjam port project raised by the Front allies would be looked into without deviating from the LDF's earlier taken stand, said minister for ports Kadannappally Ramachandran. The government's plan is to implement the project in the most transparent manner, he said while attending a meet-the-press programme at Ernakulam Press Club on Sunday.
“LDF has never opposed the project. But we have doubts over some of the aspects of the contractual agreement. The agreement conditions will be relooked to make it more clear and transparent. LDF has no plans to hinder or stop the project and the topic will be discussed in the Front and in the Cabinet. A meeting of senior officials related to the project will be convened,” the minister said.
Mr. Kadannappally added that government's initial focus is on modernisation of small ports. “Instruction has already been given to officials for preparing a project plan for developing and improving the standards of small ports.” “Plans will be drawn up to make the Vallarpadam Container Terminal more beneficial for the state,” he added.
