Cattle sale ban triggers cries of Dravidanadu'
Some even propounded separation from the Union to carve out Dravidanadu' as a solution to Delhi's bossing.
Chennai: Even as the South is revolting against the Centre’s ban on trading of cattle at shandies, the eruption has been the loudest in Tamil Nadu with several angry men and women taking to the social media to express disdain. Some even propounded separation from the Union to carve out ‘Dravidanadu’ as a solution to Delhi's bossing.
“Beef bans, Hindi imposition, all will continue until the people of #Dravidanadu start a serious discussion on separation from India”, said ‘Comrade’ Nambiar tweeting under the handle, @Kerala_Soviet. According to him, the “only way we can solve water disputes is if we are one independent nation”.
Another twitterati, Senthil Nathan, concluded that the ‘powerful’ Prime Minister, Narendra Modi “even converted a forgotten & TN-centric #Dravidanadu demand (into) a live & South Indian one”.
The big-trending ‘Dravidanadu’ rhetoric is engaging a cross section of youth and students, employed men and women, people of various religions and caste groups, even politicians of different hues.
“#Dravidanadu Trending is just a start. High Alert to BJP for discriminating religious thoughts and imposing”, warned DMK legislator J. Anbazhagan, an active twitterati--@JAnbazhagan.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is among the many who are alarmed at this Dravidanadu burst taking on the alleged Northern bullying. “Even though that (bullying) is true, I implore my fellow Southerners not to express anti-national ideas like promoting #dravidanadu. Let’s improve India”, said the former Union Minister.
His tweet drew a counter from another busy bee, Sambasiva Rao Kesana @ksambasivarao. Rao’s retort: “India will improve, but what govts are doing for South India. All central govt’s they care North and neglect South. #dravidanadu”.
Many cautioned against such separatist slogans and dangerous jingoism. Each of the southern states would witness internally divisive voices, some warned. “And then each district and each taluka..I want my own country”, said a sober twitterati, while another said: “My town Tirunelveli is least developed, why will I want to be under Tamilnadu when no development reaches me? Separate Pandiya naadu”. And another, obviously from western Tamil Nadu, declared: “I want separate Kongu nadu”.
