Co-Optex to roll out Ahimsa silk range

Chennai: As part of an initiative to overcome competition from private players and also take into account the market vibes, the State government will soon launch ‘Ahimsa silk’ range through the Co-Optex, according to Handlooms and Textile Minister O S Manian.
This is being done on accepting demands from consumers and also to facilitate a conducive atmosphere to step up the sales, he said while winding up the debate on the demand for grants for his department in the Assembly on Thursday. "In addition, the move will help to counter the competition from the private players. Co-Optex has been launching a series of products and the Ahimsa Silk will be launched with the blessings of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and on the orders of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami," Mr Manian informed.
Co-Optex showrooms in Tiruchi, Thiruvannamalai and Tuticorin would be modernised at a cost of Rs 2 crores while the showroom in Chennai at Thillaiyadi Valliammai complex would be refurbished for Rs 2 crores.

During the annual conference of State Textiles Ministers in New Delhi in November last year, the Union Textile Ministry appreciated the state for the successful implementation of the MUDRA scheme for which the government has so far sanctioned 18,340 cards for loans totalling to Rs 82.38 crore.
