Mysuru: Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of the CM, seems all set to make the plunge into politics and as the first step, he has reportedly handed over charge of his pathology lab in Bengaluru to his partner recently.

Sources close to Mr Siddaramaiah said Yathindra is likely to contest from Varuna while the Chief Minister himself may contest from Chamundeswari in the 2018 assembly elections. Mr Siddaramaiah had recently announced that he would contest from both constituencies but this was a statement intended to make Congress workers in both constituencies in Mysuru work with zeal, sources said.

Dr Yathindra stepped into the shoes of his brother, Rakesh Siddaramaiah after his sad demise on July 30 last year, and has been assisting his father in taking care of constituency related work in Varuna. He was appointed chairperson of Varuna Aashraya Jagruthi Samithi recently.

He is still not a member of the Congress but according to sources, he is already active in politics and will be joining the party soon.

On Thursday, Dr Yathindra offered special pooja to Goddess Chamundeswari at the famed temple in the Chamundi hills on the occasion of his birthday. Later, he held a meeting with Congress workers on matters related to Chamundeswari and even visited two gram panchayats in the constituency, said sources.
