Tamil Nadu CM announces projects to improve power infrastructure

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday announced projects to improve the power infrastructure in the city, besides coming out with announcements in four other departments, industries, small and medium enterprises, social welfare and differently-abled welfare.

Making a statement under rule 110 in the Assembly, he said a new 400 KV substation would come up at Koyambedu and added that the existing 230 KV substation at Taramani would be upgraded. He also said a 400 KV substation at Nagapattinam at a cost of '650 crore would be set up and added that an ultra mea solar photovoltaic power park would be established at Kadaladi in Ramanathapuram district at an estimated amount of Rs 2,350 crores.

The Chief Minister also allocated Rs 1,800 crores to set up 31 substations, change 314 high voltage transformers and take up measures for improving the electricity infrastructure in the city. Throughout the state, 128 sub stations would be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 1,347 crores.

Palaniswami announced a multi modal logistics park worth Rs 1,295 crores at Ponneri in Tiruvallur district. The second phase of SIPCOT in Tuticorin would be improved with more roads, drainage facilities and trees, he said.

The Chief Minister also said industrial estates would be set up at Arcot in Vellore district, Utthukottai in Tiruvallur district and Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district, besides sewage treatment plant at Thirumudivakkam in Erode. He also announced distribution of aid to 1,000 differently-abled children. An expert committee would be formed to install lifts, ramps, toilet facilities and information boards in braille for differently-abled people.
