2016 is not 1959, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan tells UDF
The CPM state secretary said such agitations were not going to affect the government in any way.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Thursday said that at a time when a section of leaders were all set to go to jail because of the large scale corruption during their rule, the opposition has come out with the fraudulent agitations to divert the attention of the people and weaken the LDF government's resolve. The CPM leader said the people would safeguard the Pinarayi Vijayan government which has launched many pro-people schemes during the initial phase of rule.
He was inaugurating the state level convention of landless and homeless people of the state in Thiruvananthapruam on Thursday. Kodiyeri said the UDF leadership should remember that 2016 was not 1959 while referring to the Liberation Struggle launched by the Congress to oust the E M S Namboodiripad Government. The liberation struggle is not going to click now as the Left parties were fully prepared to take on any such onslaught on the democratic set up, he added.
The CPM leader took a dig at the Congress and Youth Congress saying that they had used tear gas and grenade use in front of the secretariat, as a good opportunity to wind up their hunger strike. The CPM state secretary said such agitations were not going to affect the government in any way. The LDF government would go ahead with its decisions to provide relief to all sections of society and also ensure speedy development of the state.
