Kottayam: The UDF government was aware of the KSEB land encroachment of Devikulam MLA S. Rajendran near Munnar town, but did not take any action against him since he was a legislator, said former minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. He said the MLA himself had admitted it. The MLA has eight cents of land at Ikka Nagar in his possession, he told reporters here, revealing the understanding between the CPM and the Congress party.

He said allegations of veteran CPM leader V.S. Achuthanandan that the previous government did nothing to remove encroachers was baseless and made without any studies. "We had recovered 988.07 acres of government land in Munnar, and 547.47 acres in the Udumbanchola taluk. In the Devikulam taluk, 440.1 acres were restored,” he said.
