Chennai: P. Rama Mohana Rao, who was removed as Chief Secretary after I-T officials swooped on his residence and office, was on Thursday removed from the 'wait list' and given posting by the Tamil Nadu Government.

Mr Rao, who was placed on the 'wait list' on December 22 a day after the raids took place, has now been posted as Director, Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Chennai.  An order issued by the Tamil Nadu Government said he has been posted in the rank of additional chief secretary.

He had suffered the ignominy of being the first Chief Secretary to be raided while in power.  After the raids, the I-T had summoned his son Vivek for questioning, but there has been no further progress in the case.

Following the raids at this residence and office, Mr Rao was replaced by Girija Vaidyanathan as the Chief Secretary.  Mr Rao was appointed to the post of Chief Secretary in June 2016 by the then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa superseding several senior officers, including Ms Vaidyanathan.
