Former Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao has demanded the film Arjun Reddy be banned immediately. He’s even requested the city police commissioner and regional censor board officials to step in. He didn’t spare IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao either for praising the film.

“What message is the minister sending out by praising a movie which contains obscene and indecent scenes, including impregnation of a woman student after getting ragged, and openly encouraging the use of drugs and liquor?” asked Hanumantha Rao, who questioned whether KTR wanted Telangana’s youth to follow suit.

He further stated that at a time when government officials were making all efforts to make Hyderabad and Telangana drug free, the minister’s praise for the action-drama was absurd and uncalled for. Hanumantha Rao also alleged that since Vijay Deverakonda was a close relative of K.T. Rama Rao, he decided to promote the movie even though it encouraged all kind of evils in the society. K.T. Rama Rao did not respond, despite several attempts to reach him.

They need to focus their energies on more productive ventures. Shakespeare said all the world’s a stage, and each of us have our entries and exits and play our parts. He should have said “All the world’s a circus, and everyone is up to some attention seeking antics.”

What I could make out is that there are two scenes where the hero is shown consuming drugs. It is an art and everybody has the freedom of depiction and speech, as long as it doesn’t hurt somebody else. In this movie, the hero does give up all these at the end!”

By denying filmmakers the right to make films that reflect the society, we would become a closed society. Having said that, we need to be responsible enough to learn the right lessons.”
