Land scams have dented the image of the ruling Telugu Desam (TD) in Vizag city and rural parts also.

Guntur: The locals of SVN Colony and other areas of the Guntur city led by Telugu Desam leaders laid siege to Guntur under ground drainage contractor Shapoorji and Pallonji office in Guntur on Wednesday seeking speedy completion of UGD works.

The angry locals locked the office of the contractor saying the delay was causing severe inconvenience to the public as the roads, which have been left after digging, are giving a bumpy ride to the commuters and even congesting the roads.

TD leader and former corprator V. Sriram Prasad said the government sanctioned Rs 450 crore for UGD works and selected Shapoorji and Pallonji as the contractor for it.

He said the contractor dug up roads for installation of UGD pipes and had not covered them up properly. He said the areas dug up are turning into water pits due to rains, in which children were falling frequently.

Mr Prasad said they asked the contractor to fill the dug areas properly immediately after installation of UGD pipes but that nothing was done. They submitted a memo to the city commissioner.
