Bhopal: Congress veteran and former chief minister Digvijay Singh has been booked for his ‘misleading’ social media post alleging installation of Shivling in a Jain temple in Damoh in Madhya Pradesh by Bajrang Dal activists, police said on Wednesday.

A case was registered against him following a complaint lodged by the local VHP leader Shambu Vishwakarma in this regard, Damoh city superintendent of police Abhishek Tiwari said.

According to the police, the Congress leader has triggered a controversy by writing on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday that “On the premises of the one of the grand temples in the country, Shri Digambar Jain Siddha, which is flourished by Acharya Shri Vidya Sagar Maharaj, situated in Kundalpur, some alleged anti-social elements of Bajrang Dal have started mischief by keeping Shivji’s pindi (Shivling) since last night. Situation can anytime take a serious turn”.

The VHP leader who filed the complaint with the police described it as misleading and baseless.

The police officer said that the tweet informing installation of Shivling in the premises of the Jain temple was found incorrect after investigation and hence, a case was registered against the social media account handler under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma slammed Mr Singh for ‘trying to disturb social harmony’ with his controversial social media posts.

He said that his party would move the X seeking to block his account in the social media network.
