Extend GST compensation cess window, Telangana urges Sitharaman
The GST compensation cess window is set to expire in June next
Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday joined other states in demanding the Centre to extend the GST compensation cess window by another five years. The GST compensation cess window is set to expire in June next.
Most of the states had come up with this demand during a pre-budget consultation meeting held by union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman with finance ministers of all states.
Principal secretary of finance department K. Ramakrishna Rao attended the meeting on behalf of finance minister T. Harish Rao.
Ramakrishna Rao urged the Centre to release outstanding GST dues without any delay as the state's finances were hit drastically by Covid. He urged the Centre to enhance borrowing limits under FRBM Act, providing back to back loans and through special assistance for capital expenditure.
"The participants gave numerous suggestions to the union finance minister for inclusion in the budget speech. The finance minister thanked the participants for their inputs and suggestions for Union Budget 2022-23 and assured to examine each proposal," a release from the union finance ministry said.
