HYDERABAD: The Delhi state government was indulging in ‘competitive Hindutva’ with the BJP and its decision to have recitations of the ‘Sundarakanda’ of the Ramayana, and Hanuman Chalisa recitation, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said. There is no difference between the AAP, BJP or other Hindutva parties and this decision was taken to pander to the Hindu community, he said.

“They don’t need votes of the minorities, they need votes of the majority community. So, they are trying to project that they are as good as RSS and BJP when it comes to Hindutva,” Owaisi said.

“Is it by adopting competitive Hindutva that they want to defeat the BJP in 2024? Hindus, Dalits, Muslims, and all those with secular view must think about this tamasha. Who will benefit and who will lose?” Owaisi asked.

Responding to questions on the AAP government’s announcement to hold recitation of the Sundarakanda of the Ramayana, and Hanuman Chalisa in all of Delhi Assembly constituencies, Owaisi said, “this country celebrates all religions. Picking one over the other is wrong.”

On the Supreme Court judgment granting a stay on Allahabad High Court orders on Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura allowing a survey, Owaisi said this was the right decision. It may be recalled that the High Court allowed a survey in a case relating to a dispute about the Idgah land adjacent to a Sri Krishna Janmasthan temple in Mathura.
