NEW DELHI: After strongly criticising the government over the NEET issue, the Opposition is now gearing up to challenge the controversial Agniveer scheme in Parliament next week. The scheme, which became a significant electoral issue during the recent Lok Sabha polls, has faced calls for its abolition from opposition parties. The Opposition plans to protest in Parliament against what it describes as the government’s “misuse” of investigative agencies against its opponents. Already under pressure from the NEET controversy, the BJP-led NDA government now faces an intensified attack over the Agniveer scheme.

The Congress’ 2024 Lok Sabha manifesto pledged to scrap the Agniveer scheme, which the Modi government introduced in June 2022.
