New Delhi: Hailing the BJP’s hat-trick in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that people have ensured the victory of truth, development and good governance in the “land of Gita”. He also hailed the “peaceful” elections in Jammu and Kashmir as the victory of India’s democracy and Constitution.

Addressing the BJP workers and supporters at the BJP headquarters after the party registered its third consecutive victory in the state and increased its vote share in Jammu and Kashmir, which witnessed the first elections after the abrogation of Article 370, Mr Modi congratulated the party cadre for their hard work.

Accusing the Congress and its allies for indulging in an international conspiracy to “damage the country’s democracy, economy and social fabric”, he said that "deshbhakt" Harayana taught a lesson to such forces that it will not allow such “anti-India” politics.

"Today in Haryana, the guarantee of development has trumped falsehood," Mr Modi said while accusing the Congress of indulging in an international conspiracy to defame the country. He reiterated his government and the BJP’s commitment to "Viksit Bharat" and the upliftment of farmers, youth, women and the poor.

Citing examples of states where the BJP is in power for more than one term, the Prime Minister said in most states people have put up “no entry” boards for the Congress, which believes staying in power is its birthright.

"The Congress rarely comes back to power. It was 13 years ago that the Congress came back to power in Assam and there are some states where the Congress has not returned to power for 60 years... Once the people throw out Congress, they do not let it come back. They put no entry boards for Congress... It is a party that always thought power was its birthright," Mr Modi said.

Asserting that Haryanavis, from all “biradari aur parivar" (sect and family) voted with a sense of nationalism for the BJP, the PM said the Haryana people wrote a new chapter in the history of the state. He said ever since its formation, the state of Haryana, which used to change its ruling party after every five years, has reposed its faith in the BJP for a historic three consecutive terms.

Mr Modi said the Haryana result is also an answer to the Congress, which wants to poison society in the name of caste. In an apparent reference to the feud within the Congress camp involving its leader Kumari Shelja and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda and his MP son Deepender Hooda, he said the Congress, which denied participation to Dalit and backwards in Haryana, wants to end reservations to benefit its own vote-bank.

“Haryana gave a befitting reply to those who wanted to weaken society, promote anarchy… Those who demean the Army, provoke the youth, people gave them a reply that anti-India politics is not agreeable to them… Har biradari har parivar ne desh bhakti se otprot ho kar vote diya hai,” said the PM.

Referring to the Jammu and Kashmir result, Mr Modi said the BJP scored the highest vote share in the Union territory. Calling the Congress “parjivi" (parasite), he said the Opposition party is reduced to surviving on others. He said while the Congress lost in Haryana, where it went alone, it will seek benefit in J&K because of its ally NC.

He also slammed the Congress and its allies for attacking the transparency and honour of institutions. “The Congress wants to build a country where people hate their heritage and institutions… It wants to malign institutions like the EC, Army, police, judiciary... It did the same before the Lok Sabha results when the Congress, its allies and urban Naxals went to the Supreme Court to malign the EC. They even tried the same thing today,” said the PM.

Taking an apparent swipe at PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti, who had once claimed that Jammu and Kashmir will burn if its special status was removed, Mr Modi said, “Kashmir has bloomed instead.”

The Prime Minister asserted that for the first time since Independence the Indian constitution was implemented in its entirety when Article 370 was removed and everyone was allowed to vote. which was the best tribute to B.R. Ambedkar. He said Jammu and Kashmir registered the record number of voter turnout and has come out of curfew and separatism.

Earlier, BJP president J.P. Nadda hailed the party's victory in the Haryana Assembly polls and said the people have rejected the Congress' pitch for casteism, nepotism and dynastic politics and voted for the BJP's development model under Mr Modi’s leadership. He also hailed the party's performance in Jammu and Kashmir and said its vote share increased in the Assembly polls as the people of the Union territory reposed faith in the Prime Minister's leadership.
