These colleges with about 1 lakh staff were on the verge of closure. The government had released only Rs 2,000 crore out of the total Rs 7,500 crore dues.

Hyderabad: BJP leader Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud on Tuesday accused the Revanth Reddy government of showing more interest to clear Rs 4,000 crore dues of contractors, but ignored the release of the fee reimbursement dues of 15 lakh students. These colleges with about 1 lakh staff were on the verge of closure. The government had released only Rs 2,000 crore out of the total Rs 7,500 crore dues.

Students have been facing problems in getting back their certificates from 900 private degree colleges, 1,350 private junior colleges and other professional engineering colleges due to the non-reimbursement of fees to colleges.

”When representatives of educational bodies met the Chief Minister, they were told to collect the amount from KCR. Why were Rs 4,000 crore dues of contractors, which was also pending since the last government, released,” Dr Goud asked.

Dr Goud alleged that poor patients were not getting medical care from private hospitals as the government had not released Rs 1,400 crore dues under the Aarogyasri scheme. The journalists health scheme was also of no use as no hospital was ready to admit patients under it, he said.

He also demanded that the state government release the pending four installments of dearness allowance (DA) of employees, and announce a new Pay Revision Commission as was promised before the Assembly polls.

Dr Goud also urged the government to speed up paddy procurement as only 36 lakh tonnes of paddy have been procured out of 1.50 crore lakh tonnes produced during the Rabi season.
