NEW DELHI: Facing significant setbacks in rural India, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab, the NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now initiating a substantial outreach to farmers and the poor in the hinterland.

On June 18, Modi is expected to visit his parliamentary constituency Varanasi to address a farmers’ conference. Modi, who won Varanasi by nearly four and five lakh votes in 2014 and 2019 respectively, had to struggle in the initial phases during the recent Lok Sabha polls. He eventually won by a margin of 1.5 lakh, a sharp fall of nearly three lakh votes since 2019.

Sources said Modi will be on a day-long visit to Varanasi and address a farmers' conference. This will be his first visit to his constituency after taking the oath as Prime Minister for the third time on June 9.

BJP’s Kashi region president Dilip Patel said, “After addressing the farmers’ conference, the PM will offer prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple and also participate in the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat,” Patel said.

Meanwhile, ahead of the International Yoga Day on June 21, Modi on Tuesday urged people to make yoga an integral part of their lives and also encourage others to do the same.

In a post on X, Modi said: “In 10 days from now, the world will mark the 10th International Day of Yoga, celebrating a timeless practice that celebrates oneness and harmony. Yoga has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries, uniting millions across the globe in the pursuit of holistic well-being.”

“As we approach this year’s Yoga Day, it is essential to reiterate our commitment to make yoga an integral part of our lives and also encourage others to make it a part of theirs. Yoga offers a sanctuary of calm, enabling us to navigate life’s challenges with calm and fortitude,” he said.

Sharing a set of videos that offers guidance on various “asanas” and their benefits, the Prime Minister said: “As Yoga Day approaches, I am sharing a set of videos that will offer guidance on various asanas and their benefits. I hope this inspires you all to practice yoga regularly.”
