Red Alert: Schools Closed as Coastal Karnataka Prepares for Severe Weather

Mangaluru: With a red alert issued for Coastal Karnataka by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Disaster Management Centre for June 27, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has declared a holiday for all Anganwadis and schools in Dakshina Kannada district. As per the order holiday has been declared on June 27 for Anganwadis, government, aided, and private primary and high schools.

With the district experiencing heavy rainfall, the district administration has initiated various precautionary measures.

Areas prone to landslides have been identified and precautionary measures have been implemented to mitigate risks.

Residents have been advised to avoid water bodies such as low-lying areas, ponds, rivers, and the seashore.

Deputy Commissioner Muhilan has urged the public to report any natural calamities to the relevant authorities

According to the IMD, squally weather with wind speeds of 35 kmph to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is likely to prevail along the Karnataka coast.

The district administration has warned Fishermen against venturing into the sea.

Red alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts of Karnataka.
