School Teacher Suspended Over WhatsApp Inactivity
Vijayawada: A secondary grade teacher, L. Ramesh, from B.S.R.K.M.C. High School in Vijayawada, has been suspended for insubordination. The action stems from his alleged failure to follow instructions disseminated through a school WhatsApp group.
According to reports, Ramesh exited the school's WhatsApp group and neglected to follow timely directives issued by higher authorities since April 22, 2024. These directives, distributed through the WhatsApp group, reportedly originated from both the district education officer and the principal secretary of school education.
When questioned by the school principal regarding his inactivity, Ramesh cited a doctor's verbal advice to avoid mobile phones and WhatsApp due to eye strain. However, the school headmaster noted the absence of any official medical documentation supporting this claim.
The headmaster's report cited Ramesh's actions as demonstrating "gross negligence, carelessness, and disobedience" towards superior authorities. Furthermore, the report questioned Ramesh's "integrity and devotion" to his duties.
Based on this report, the district education officer, U.V. Subba Rao, suspended Ramesh with immediate effect on May 23.
The suspension falls under sub-rule (1) of Rule 8 of the AP Civil Services (CCA) Rules, 1991. Ramesh will remain suspended until the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings or the termination of all case-related proceedings. The suspension order restricts Ramesh from leaving his headquarters without prior permission from the DEO. He will receive a subsistence allowance equivalent to half-pay leave salary during the suspension period.
