Mumbai: After high voltage and bitter contest in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule on Sunday went to Maharashtra deputy chief minister and her estranged cousin Ajit Pawar’s home at Katewadi in Pune. The development raised eyebrows in the political circle. However, Ms Sule said that she had gone to meet her aunty Ashatai, who is mother of Ajit Pawar.

According to the NCP (SP) working president, she could not meet Ajit Pawar and his wife Sunetra, who were busy at the food distribution function for Pandharpur Wari.

After the meeting, Ms Sule told the reporters that Katewadi residence belongs neither to her nor to Ajit. It belongs to Shardabai Pawar and Govindarao Pawar. Therefore, it is the Pawar’s residence. “My Asha Kaki lives here. I have resided in this house since my birth. That is why I come to greet Ashakaki. Coincidentally, Sunetratai’s mother was also there. I took her blessings too,” she said.

Shardabai and Govindarao were parents of NCP founder Sharad Pawar.

Supriya Sule’s visit at Ajit Pawar’s home assumes political significance in the backdrop of the biennial election to 11 seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, which will be held on July 12.

In the recently concluded Lok Sabha election, Supriya Sule had defeated NDA candidate Sunetra Pawar by 1,58,333 votes in Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. Following this, Sunetra was nominated by Ajit Pawar-led NCP to the Rajya Sabha membership.
