New Delhi/Thiruvananthapuram: Thrissur MP and Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi clarified on Monday that he will continue in the Narendra Modi government, putting to rest all speculations regarding his possible resignation from the ministry.

After being sworn in as a minister of state in the Modi 3.0 government on Sunday evening, Suresh Gopi made surprising remarks before the media. The actor-turned-politician expressed his hope that he would be relieved of his ministerial responsibilities soon, as he needs to complete some pending films that he had signed earlier.

His flip-flop triggered speculation about his resignation from the Cabinet. With the controversy taking the sheen out of the historic victory in Thrissur, the BJP central leadership intervened in the matter. Subsequently, Suresh Gopi clarified his position on the X platform. He tweeted;``A few media platforms are spreading the incorrect news that I am going to resign from the Council of Ministers of the Modi Government. This is grossly incorrect. Under the leadership of PM @narendramodi Ji we are committed to the development and prosperity of Kerala.”

He posted a similar clarification on Facebook, stating that he is proud to be a part of the Modi cabinet.

Suresh Gopi was reportedly upset over the minister of state position as he was expecting a Cabinet berth. The Malayalam superstar created history by registering BJP’s maiden victory in Lok Sabha from Kerala. He defeated the LDF candidate by a margin of 74,686 votes.

Apart from Suresh Gopi, former vice chairman of the National Minorities Commission George Kurian was also inducted into the Modi ministry as minister of state.

Meanwhile, BJP state president K Surendran said Suresh Gopi was handpicked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the union ministry. The reports regarding his resignation are nothing but media speculations.

“Both Suresh Gopi and George Kurian will work for the people of Kerala,” he said.
