Chennai: Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict empowering States to sub-classify Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for reservation, Chief Minister M K Stalin said that it was yet another recognition of the Dravidian Model journey towards upholding social justice.

In a message on X, Stalin recalled his moving the Bill providing for three per cent internal reservation for the Arunthathiyar community within the quota for Scheduled Castes in the State Assembly and ensuring its passage in the House.

The three per cent exclusive reservation was the brainchild of M Karunanidhi and the Supreme Court had given its approval for it on Thursday, Stalin said, exulting over the verdict given by a seven-member bench that heard the petitions filed against it.

He said that the Bill was prepared on the basis of data gathered by an expert committee constituted for the purpose of providing exclusive reservation for the Arunthathiyar community.
