Tiger Habitat to be Developed in Vacated Adilabad Villages
Adivasi settlements in KTR vacated for tiger conservation, with translocation from Maharashtra planned to create a thriving habitat
Adilabad: The Forest Department plans to convert the two Adivasi habitations from where villagers vacated into habitation for tigers to be translocated from Maharashtra.
These Adivasis habitations Maisampet and Rampur were just relocated from the core area of Kawal Tiger Reserve (KTR) and the tigers to be relocated from Maharashtra will be put in an enclosure type of environment to make them adjust first to the local environment.
It is said that a mother tiger and its two cubs from Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station of Maharashtra will be translocated into the Maisampet and Rampur forests, where Adivasi relocated to Maddipadaga village in Kadam Mandal. There are a total of 142 families living in these two villages.
It is said that the tigers will be put in an enclosure-type environment created in the Maisampet forest area to make them adjust to the local environment and become resident tigers after a few months.
Maisampet Forest area is deep inside a reserve forest with no human disturbance after villagers vacated the Maisampet village and the forest area that is adjacent to the Gangapur reserve forest. Gangapur forest area was considered a big patch in the core area of KTR.
According to reliable sources, the top forest officials talked with the Chandrapur's forest officials who expressed their readiness to translocate the female tiger and its two cubs that are moving in the Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Station.
The sources said forest officials of Kawal Tiger Reserve (KTR) will create an enclosure with a big patch of reserve forest area with Maisampet as its centre and relocated tigers will be put enclosure kind of environment.The tigers will be released into the real forest after confirming that they have adjusted to the local environment and could become resident tigers.
On the other hand, grasslands will be developed in the area to increase the population of antelopes from where Maisampet and Rampur villagers vacated their villages and shifted to Maddipadaga where houses were constructed and agricultural lands were given to the families under resettlement and rehabilitation packages by the authorities of the KTR.
