TN: Chargesheet Against Accused in Petrol Bomb Hurling at Raj Bhavan

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) charge-sheeted Karukka Vinoth who was arrested in connection with hurling a petrol bomb in front of the Raj Bhavan in Chennai on October 25, 2023. He hurled two petrol bombs at Gate-1 of Raj Bhavan and was charged under Sections 124, 379. 436, 353 and 506 Part-II of IPC and Section 3,4 and 5 of Explosive Substances Act 1908, along with Section 4 of TN Property (Prevention of Damages and Loss) Act 1992.
This was the fourth such incident involving the accused. Earlier, he had thrown petrol bombs at Government establishments like TASMAC, the Teynampet police station and the BJP state head office in Chennai.
After his arrest, he was produced before the Saidapet Metropolitan Magistrate Court and while being taken to the court, he was heard raising slogans ‘NEET should be banned’ and ‘prisoners in jail for more than 10 years should be released’.
Vinoth has a criminal record with at least 14 criminal cases pending against him.
