Hyderabad: An 11th Class Student was prohibited from attending classes at an Almora inter-college after getting married. The institution said, "Allowing a married woman to sit in the classroom would disrupt the school's environment."

Simran, a 19-year-old, resident of Niyaz Ganj, has been studying in Anand Singh Government Girls Inter College since eighth grade. On July 28, after her wedding, she went back to school, but she was not permitted to sit in the classroom.

Vijaya Pant, the principal of the school told TOI, " Such a thing has happened in our school for the first time that a married student wants to attend classes. Our regulations do not permit admission of married students since it would have an impact on other students. We have told her that if higher authorities grant permission, she would be allowed to attend classes."

On Wednesday, Amba Balodi, the chief education officer of Almora, told TOI that no rule prevented a married student from attending Classes.

"Provisional permission has been granted to Simran to attend classes. The matter is being overseen by the basic education officer,” he added.
