Vijayapura Water Quality Under Scrutiny After Illness Outbreak
Vijayapura: Vijayapura Zilla Panchayat CEO Rishi Anand has directed officials to thoroughly check the water quality before supplying it to the public. He warned that the Panchayat PDO, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer, and the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department would be held accountable if contaminated water is supplied in their jurisdiction.
In response to recent incidents where residents of Navadagi and Minajagi villages in Talikoti taluk fell ill after consuming contaminated water, CEO Rishi Anand visited the affected areas to assess the situation and spoke with individuals receiving treatment at the Community Health Center.
He inspected drinking water sources, including borewells, wells, overhead tanks, and drains in both villages, and emphasized the importance of preventing water stagnation near drinking water sources. He directed the officials to clean village drains daily, close non-potable water sources, and educate the public on hygiene practices. Officials were instructed to conduct continuous water quality checks.
"Water is being supplied through tankers in rural areas, and the quality must be checked before distribution. If the water is found unfit for drinking, its supply should be halted immediately, and appropriate measures should be taken," Rishi Anand stated.
In a meeting held at the Talikoti taluk panchayat office with the PDOs from all gram panchayats in the taluk, the CEO stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted and safe drinking water supply in villages.
