Vijayawada: Teenage Mother Asked to Abort Dies by Suicide

Vijayawada: A 19-year-old pregnant woman died by suicide after her husband and in-laws asked her to abort her second child, whose sex turned out to be female.

Circle inspector T.V.V. Rama Rao said the marriage of Kavya Sri, a resident of Ramalingeswar Nagar under Penamaluru police station limits, had been solemnised two years ago. She has a 10-month-old baby girl. She is five-month pregnant.

The inspector said Kavya Sri’s medical reports indicated that she is pregnant with a baby girl. Following this her husband and in-laws had been forcing her to abort the child, as they want her to conceive a boy child.

Unable to bar their pressure, Kavya Sri attempted suicide on Friday night,” the CI said.

When the in-laws found her hanging, they shifted her to Kamineni Hospital for treatment, where she died during the early hours of Sunday.

Police have registered a case and have shifted the victim’s body to Vuyyur Government Hospital for post-mortem.
