Xu Wei is the new Chinese Consul General in Kolkata

Kolkata:Xu Wei has become the new Chinese Consul General in Kolkata.His appointment comes after China sent a new ambassador, Xu Feihong, to India in May.

Mr Wei is the sixth Chinese Consul General in Kolkata who replaced Zha Liyuo. He reached the city on June 1. He was greeted by the Chinese consulate general officials, representatives of the Indo-Chinese community and Chinese-funded enterprises in Kolkata at the airport.

Mr Wei said he is honoured to work in Kolkata, a capital of culture and art and the "City of Joy." According to him, China and India are neighbours connected by mountains and rivers, and five states in our consular districts has a long history of friendly exchanges with China.

The consulate general will actively promote friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and India, deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and contribute to the sound and steady development of China-India relationship, a statement said.

At the same time, the consulate general will continue to provide high-quality consular services to overseas Chinese and Chinese-funded enterprises in the consular district.
