Visakhapatnam: The Anakapalli District Police have recovered and returned over 2,200 stolen mobile phones worth more than Rs. 3 crores in the last year. The 8th mobile recovery mela saw 200 mobile phones, worth approximately Rs. 30 lakhs, handed over to their owners during a special "Mobile Recovery Mela" program held at the district police office on Wednesday.

"We are happy to have recovered 200 mobile phones and return them to the victims," said District Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha. "Our IT core team and the Crime Investigation Department have worked diligently to trace and recover these stolen devices from across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu."

So far, the Anakapalli police have registered around 3,500 complaints of mobile phone theft and have managed to recover a total of 2,208 devices, worth over Rs. 3 crore, in 8 batches.

The recovery effort has been aided by the central government's Mobile Missing portal CEIR (https://www.ceir.gov.in/), which allows victims to track their lost/stolen devices. The Anakapalli police have also made it easier for the public to file complaints by allowing them to simply message "Hi" to the district's WhatsApp number without having to visit a police station.
