Visakhapatnam: The Anakapalli district police are ramping up efforts to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. During a meeting held at the district police office on Sunday, Superintendent of Police Muralikrishna stressed the need for heightened vigilance among all offices and staff in the district to prevent any untoward incidents.
The SP highlighted that exit polls will commence on June 1, with the official election results being announced on June 4. As part of preparation, he instructed the police officers to remain on high alert and enforce various precautionary measures.
He also directed his staff to take steps to prevent stage programmes during rallies, processions, and festivals, as well as banning the sale of loose petrol at fuel stations.
The SP also asked the staff to inspect fireworks manufacturing shops regularly and monitor their sales closely. Special attention is also being given to known troublemakers, with orders to expel any rowdysheeters engaged in illegal activities from the district.
The district police have also been tasked with cracking down on the sale of illegal liquor and preventing gambling activities such as betting, cockfighting, and coin games. He further added that to ensure comprehensive coverage, police pickets, patrols, and check posts will be strategically established in villages.
The police have warned against spreading inflammatory messages or baseless allegations on social media, with strict action promised against offenders. Additionally, SP Muralikrishna called for a review of records from previous elections (2014, 2019, and 2021 local body elections) to identify and monitor individuals previously involved in electoral offences.
