Coal auctions: BRS continues attack on Cong
Hyderabad: The BRS on Friday continued its attack on the Congress government alleging that it has deliberately mortgaged the future of Singareni collieries by not opposing the auction of coal blocks in Telangana by the Centre. The BRS working president for the second day in a row, questioned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on the auctions saying that in 2021, Revanth demanded the transfer of four coal blocks in the state to Singareni. “Today you sent your Deputy CM to participate and promote the auctions that you and Congress opposed in the past. Do you not agree that auctioning of Telangana coal blocks will essentially pave the way for eventual privatization of Singareni under the guise of disinvestment?” Rama Rao asked in a post on X.
Joining him was senior BRS leader and former MP B. Vinod Kumar who told reporters, “The Congress is trying to spread a false narrative by saying BRS supported the Minerals Bill in the Parliament, which was passed amidst vociferous protests by BRS MPs. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka should apologise for saying the BRS supported the Bill and eventual auction of the coal blocks.”
Meanwhile, former energy minister and BRS MLA G. Jagadish Reddy claimed credit for his party for “forcing Congress leaders to change their stand on auction of coal blocks in the state.” At another press meet, he said Rama Rao’s questioning the Congress silence on the auction forced the ruling party to change its stand and urge the Centre to allocate coal blocks to Singareni instead of auctioning them.
