Hyderabad: Two people from a family died and four others were injured when a water tanker crashed into two cars parked by the roadside on the Outer Ring Road under the Narsingi police limits.

The incident took place at 1.30 am on Sunday; the tanker was travelling from the APPA Junction towards Gachibowli at high speed.

The victims were identified as K. Manisha and K. Tarun Chandra, both aged 19, who were standing near the cars.

They were among 14 persons from one family from Keesara, including for elderly persons and the rest aged below 30 years, who came to Hyderabad for sight-seeing and a family function. They started their journey from Mahendra Hills in Secunderabad in the evening, visited a few places, had dinner at Madhapur and set out for home.

When they reached the ORR, one of the elderly persons started feeling nauseous and the family stopped by the roadside, with the parking indicators on, said Narsingi inspector G. Hari Krishna Reddy.

The victims, Tarun Chandra and Manisha, were standing outside the cars. They saw the truck approaching and quickly alerted the elderly woman. As they were getting back into the car, the lorry crashed into it.

A family member said, "If the cars had not stopped, this incident would not have happened. It is devastating to see a young boy and a girl with a great future losing their lives in seconds,” he added.

The police registered a case and detained the tanker driver Prashanth Kumar. An investigation has been initiated, the police said. The bodies of the victims were taken to the Osmania General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
