Adilabad Police Seize 900 Kg Ganja Worth ₹2.25 Crore
Adilabad:Adilabad police seized 900 kg dry ganja packed in 292 packets valued at Rs 2.25 crore that was being transported in an Eicher to Buldana and Dhoole districts of bordering Maharashtra from Andhra-Orissa borders.
It was learnt that police seized the ganja at the checkpost at Laxmipur village in Talamadugu mandal on the state borders on Tuesday night but showed it to the media on Wednesday.
Superintendent of Police Gause Alam informed the media that they had seized a huge stock of ganja and it was first time such a large quantity of the contraband was seized in Adilabad district. He said they got information about the transportation of ganja and found it in a container of Uttarakhand during the vehicle checking at the checkpost.
The police detained eight accused and arrested driver Waseem and container cleaner Arman of Uttar Pradesh, while prime accused Ashish of Malkangiri of Odissa and Pandit Ji of Kasampur Meerat of Uttar Pradesh and Anshu Jain and Sonu Ansari of Uttara Khand were absconding.
The police registered cases under sections U/8 (c), r/W, 20(b), (ii) (C) of the NDP Act 1985.
Police claimed that driver Ansari revealed that he transported ganja earlier too and delivered it to the same people from the forests of Raipur, Sukma, Jagdalpur district of Chattisgarh.
The ganja was loaded in an Eicher container at Chinthur and Maredupalli of Bhadrachalam and passed through Warangal and Karimnagar to reach Adilabad. The police seized a container and two mobiles in connection with the seizure of the contraband.
