Crackdown on Quacks: 10 Held, As Many Flee
Hyderabad:At least 10 quacks were caught practising medicine in Hyderabad’s Kompally, Dulapally, and Bahadurpally areas, while another 10 fled locking their clinics.
Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) officials, along with Health Care Reforms Doctors Association leaders, conducted extensive raids that brought to the fore these individuals operating without valid medical qualifications.
The arrested included Rambabu, Pawan, Santosh Chari, Babu, and Ramanujam. They were found administering high-dose antibiotics and steroids without proper authorisation, posing severe risks to public health. Evidence, including these medicines and other incriminating materials was seized by the TGMC team.
The ethical committee chairman Dr Kiran Kumar assured that cases would be filed against the quacks under the NMC Act. “We will increase inspection across Hyderabad in the coming days. Public must avoid unqualified practitioners and seek treatment from government or certified doctors to avoid health complications,” he stated.
The raids created panic among fake practitioners, with several clinics now shuttered. TGMC officials vowed to continue their operations for another week to ensure public safety while Dr Phanikumar urged citizens not to fall prey to such unauthorised practitioners stressing the dangers of unprescribed medications.
