Cuttack: Elderly Man Sets Son, Daughter-in-Law Ablaze Over Family Dispute

BHUBANESWAR: A gruesome act of domestic violence unfolded in Barasingha village under the Baranga police station in Cuttack district, where an elderly man allegedly set his son and daughter-in-law on fire after dousing them with petrol during a family dispute.
The accused, identified as Gobardhan Rout, reportedly attacked the young couple amid escalating tensions within the household. Both victims sustained critical burn injuries.
Hearing their cries, neighbors rushed to the scene, managed to extinguish the flames, and rescued the couple. They were immediately transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where they are receiving treatment for their life-threatening injuries.
Local police have detained Rout for questioning as investigations are underway to determine the events leading up to the attack. Authorities are also probing the underlying family issues that may have motivated the horrifying act.
