Cuttack: Six injured during group clash during Kali idol immersion

Bhubaneswar: A ceremonial immersion procession of Goddess Kali turned violent in Cuttack, Odisha, leaving at least six people critically injured. The clash, according to reports, erupted between two groups near Royal Garden in Chandnichowk, with the injured immediately transported to Cuttack’s City Hospital for urgent care.
Local police, alerted to the incident, arrived swiftly to control the volatile situation, deploying additional forces in the area to prevent further disturbances. Lalbagh police officials confirmed that measures were in place to restore calm and maintain order.
According to sources, the conflict began when a group of youths from the Mohammadia Bazar area was returning home after completing the immersion ritual. They encountered another group from the Chandnichowk Hasina Bag area, and a verbal argument quickly escalated into a violent altercation. Both groups allegedly resorted to pelting stones and throwing glass bottles, escalating the confrontation. The skirmish soon turned more severe as some individuals wielded sharp-edged weapons, causing substantial injuries and property damage.
Eyewitnesses reported that, amidst the chaos, a nearby shop was ransacked, and three motorcycles were completely destroyed in the melee.
The exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, but Lalbagh police have launched an investigation to determine the instigators behind the clash. Authorities have vowed to apprehend those responsible and restore peace in the area.
